Course Description:

AHA’s ACLS Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. This course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR.

This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition, and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

Course Content

  • The online coursework is mandatory and must be completed prior to the course

  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
    • A BLS Card is NOT part of this course.
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • Management of ACS and stroke
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

Card:

An American Heart Association ACLS Provider Card will be available within 5-20 business days.

In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

Participants MUST have a current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers card. Non-UT Health East Texas EMS/Air 1 Employees must email a copy of their current provider card to vicky.lamay@uthet.com

Course Description:

The AHA’s PALS Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. This classroom, Instructor-led course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

NAEMT's Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is recognized around the world as the leading continuing education program for prehospital emergency trauma care. The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care.  PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program. 

PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook and covers the following topics:

  • Physiology of life and death
  • Scene assessment
  • Patient assessment
  • Airway
  • Breathing, ventilation and oxygenation
  • Circulation, hemorrhage and shock
  • Patients with disabilities
  • Patient simulations

PHTLS is the global gold standard in prehospital trauma education and is taught in 64 countries. PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital providers. PHTLS is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT.

Precourse Requirement

Completion of the online hybrid PHTLS course. You will receive an email with the code and instructions to access the online portion. The part of the course cost that covers the online portion is $50.00 and non-refundable once the code is issued.

Card:

A PHTLS Provider Card will be available within 5-20 business days. A letter stating the course has been successfully completed can be issued on the day of the course upon request.

Attended the entire course

Adhered to course content and demonstrated all practical skills

Successful completion of course post-test

Any student who is unsuccessful in one segment of the evaluative process will be permitted an opportunity to receive remediation and retesting.

  • A paper book will be available for use in class but is not included in the course fee. You can purchase a book via the JB Learning Website, but make sure it is the 10th Edition Textbook.

Card:

A PHTLS Provider Card will be available within 5-20 business days. A letter stating the course has been successfully completed can be issued the day of the course upon request.

  • $50.00 for 8 hours of EMS CE Credit Only (you will not receive the PHTLS card but will be provided with a CE certificate the day of the course)

Cancellation and Refund Policy Summary:

  • Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the scheduled class, will receive a 100% refund with the expection of the PHTLS Hybrid Course.
    • The PHTLS Hybrid Course will be refunded for the cost of the skills ONLY at $100.00.
  • Cancellations made within 5 days of the scheduled class will incur a 50% fee.
  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled class will not receive a refund and forfeit the full amount paid.
  • If unable to attend, you can transfer to another course date. Contact us via email to make the request once you have a different date on the schedule.
